We were sent the Jackery Explorer 240 Portable Power Station about two weeks ago to try and give an honest unbiased review. I must say we were impressed by the quality of the Jackery Explorer 240 and the ease of use. However I found it very hard to justify putting out $250.00 for it.
But if I am being I honest I see no use for these type of products. Most RV’s already have these types of plugs installed or could have them installed for way less. And I personally don’t see a hiker or backpacker wanting to add the weight in their packs. Although the Jackery 240 only weighs 6.6 lbs. It’s still would take up valuable space. A tent camper would be my guess as to who would use or benefit from this the most. Ok I get it, it’s all about portability but the cost just didn’t equal the value that would give me. I may have used it once or twice just to charge my phone but it mostly just set in the camper.
The charging time for me was another downfall although you could use it during the day and charge it at night. But let’s think about this, how are you planning to recharge it? It offers three ways to recharge it but to me none really make sense. Let me explain. If you have electric available then do you really need it? I personally am not plugging it into my car lighter plug overnight and then maybe wake to a dead car battery and i’m surely not going to run my car just to charge it. And then there is solar which I might add does nothing at night.
So in my honest opinion I would save your money and invest in a set of good solar panels.
Sure you could use the Jackery Explorer 240 at night and charge with solar during the day but then is it really portable?
